Encouraging Kindness for Mental Health Awareness Week UK

Aramark supports connected coffees to help battle the loneliness of isolation

This week is Mental-Health-Awareness-Week, UK, and the theme for the week focuses on Kindness. Importantly, it is recognised that this means kindness to others and to yourself - which is a message we have shared with our employees.

In coordination with our Wellbeing Team, we have provided guides to support managers at every level of of our business to reach out and connect (virtually) with their teams this coming Friday.
 They'll also receive an activity pack, with everything from quiz questions, to scavenger hunts, to baking challenges.

Why are we doing this?


When it comes to mental health, small gestures can make the biggest differences.

It is recognised that one of the feelings millions of us are experiencing during the current COVID-19 pandemic is loneliness. In our combined efforts to stay safe and save lives, our usual ways of seeing family, friends or just familiar faces have been put on pause. Long-term loneliness is associated with an increased risk of certain mental health problems, including depression, anxiety and increased stress (Mental Health Foundation UK).

To help combat this loneliness we are encouraging everyone in Aramark Northern Europe to take a break, by Taking 15, and connecting with each other.


In addition to our virtual Take 15 coffee break we are also asking all our employees to participate in a recently launched, 'Employee Wellbeing during COVID-19' survey.

To quote U2 front-man, Bono, “we’re not all in the same boat, but we are going through the same storm”, and we would like to better understand how our of all employees, including those working and those temporarily laid off/furloughed, are coping.
 
We recognise that every Aramark employee will be going through different experiences, struggles, hopes, fears and realities. We hope that feedback from the survey will allow us to develop the necessary tools to support all our employees now and, on their return, to work.
