Chichester College Students Take Part in Masterchef Challenge

Competition overseen by Aramark Culinary Leaders

At the end of October our team at Chichester College organised a 'Masterchef'- style competition for their resident students. Two teams of three were given the task of creating two courses for their fellow students to enjoy – and on Wednesday (28 October) they took to the college’s kitchens to cook their menus. They were given two hours to cook up around 20 portions of their dishes and were supported by our Aramark Chefs.

Both teams cooked a mix of international dishes. Team One cooked an Asian/Italian-fusion dish they called ‘Wagababa Spaghetti’. Which was followed by a Portuguese-inspired egg tart. They were praised for their organisation and flavour. While Team Two cooked a Smoked Salmon Quiche and a Bruschetta main with a Pepernoten (Dutch Cookie) to finish. Team Two were praised for their flavours, especially the Pepernoten.

Denise Moon, International Accommodation Manager for the Chichester College Group, said: “We wanted to be able to give those students living on campus the chance to experience different types of activities during their time with us, so when the Aramark team suggested running a ‘Masterchef’ competition we thought it was a great opportunity. Not only did it give them the chance to step into a new environment, they were also able to learn more about healthy eating and to also gain an insight into the work that goes into providing their meals every day".

Chris Pepin, Director of Operations for Aramark, was one of the judges, joining Aramark’s Executive Chef Phil Quinn. He added: “It was great to see the students enjoying themselves in the kitchen and the pride they had in the food they had produced. They were very competitive, and the standard of food produced was excellent. It was a very close but there were no losers as everyone had fun. We are so proud to support the students and the college anyway we can especially in the current Covid times.”

Although both teams produced great dishes, Team One was announced as the winner. But the event was a success for both teams. Julie Kapsalis, Managing Director of the Chichester College Group, thanked the Aramark team for the Big Student Cook Off event and for their continued support on numerous college and group-wide initiatives which benefit the students.

The event was a great success, well done to everyone involved!
